What to do on a rainy day with your kids? Let us
help! The following is a suggested itinerary for families.
The Sciencenter is
open 7 days a week during July & August and closed Mondays
the rest of the year. This community-built, hands-on science
museum is sure to enlighten, entertain, and energize your young
tot, child or teenager. If the rain is a sprinkle, consider
a round of mini-golf at the Sciencenter's Galaxy
Golf . Sure fun for the whole family! Nearby,
visit Jolly Joker Hall of Games for arcade
games and fun after lunch at Papa John's Pizza.
Next, visit the Downtown Ithaca Commons, where
younger children will enjoy Alphabet Soup. Also
visit Cat's Pajamas located in Dewitt
Mall just off the Commons. These local children's stores
feature fun educational toys and cool kids' clothes.
Looking for a good story? All the bookstores in the downtown
area have expansive children's sections as well as something
for Mom and Dad. Stop by the Tompkins County Public Library for
storytelling hour or to check out a book or video.
While downtown, venture over to the History Center in
Tompkins County . Examine history through a local
lens. Learn all the things that make the Ithaca & Tompkins
County area unique.
Enjoy a few hours at Dynamic Patterns on Cayuga
Street where you can paint your own pottery. They'll fire them
for you and have them ready in a couple days. Right around the
corner at Providence Hobbies , you can pick
up some toys and models.
Does your family enjoy ice cream? If so, we have several local
ice cream shops. Purity Ice Cream offers all
home-made products made from fresh milk delivered to their store
three times a week. Or, if you are near Cornell University ,
visit the Cornell Dairy Bar located on the
corner of Tower Road & Wing Road in Stocking Hall. |
